One of the best ways to encourage your learning-to-read and learning-to-spell children is to let them IM with a grandparent or the like. Keep an eye on what they're doing, but let them have at it.

I know I'm really enjoying it! And it's really good for a chuckle or two! It keeps my mind working, figuring out what some of the more difficult words are sometimes! lol
I never would've thought about this as a literacy tool, but it's a great idea! The librarian in me thinks it's a wonderful pairing of communication and learning. :)
